Turmeric is widely used for both seasoning and medicinal purposes. Its unique taste can be found in curry powders, mustards and cheeses and can be included in daily meals. Its benefits include anti-inflammatory compounds and cancer-fighting attributes. Read last week’s blog “Become Addicted to Turmeric” to learn more about Turmeric and it’s incredible qualities.
One last thing! When cooking with turmeric try and use black pepper with it. When the body consumes a quarter of a teaspoon of black pepper, the curcumins bio availability sky rockets to 2000% allowing turmeric to work its magic. Benefits include pain relief, weight loss, and cancer prevention.

Golden milk
Golden milk is ideally prepared with full-fat coconut milk. You can use light coconut milk, but the fat, or any kind of fat or oil for that matter, aids the absorption of turmeric constituents. Sweeten turmeric milk with the sweetener of your choice and a pinch black pepper (the secret ingredient) to add flavor.

Ingredients for golden milk with turmeric powder
½ tsp turmeric
1 cup coconut milk
½ cup water
2-3 black peppercorns

1. Heat milk and water over low heat and stir in the turmeric powder.
2. Bring to a boil and allow to simmer for 10 minutes.
3. This procedure will reduce the milk to one cup.
4. Turn off the heat and add crushed black pepper.
5. Drink the milk hot or warm.

Ingredients for golden milk with fresh turmeric root (rhizome)
1” piece of fresh turmeric
1 cup coconut milk
½ cup water
2-3 black peppercorns

1. Grate or crush the turmeric and add to coconut milk and water.
2. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
3. Add crushed pepper and keep aside for 5 minutes.
4. Strain the golden milk into a cup and drink it warm.

Turmeric omelet

Cooking time 10 minutes
Servings 2

4 eggs
3 tablespoons coconut oil
½ cup red onions, chopped
4 green onions, chopped (optional)
1 cup red peppers, sliced
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh dill
1 tablespoon fresh basil
2 tablespoons turmeric
Black pepper (of course for synergy) and salt

1. Sauté onions, green onions, red bell peppers and garlic in pan with coconut oil over medium-low heat for 5 minutes.
2. Add in eggs and herbs.
3. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring continuously and add in turmeric, salt and black pepper.
